• Clinical Hypnotherapist - Background to Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy?

The state of Hypnosis has been with us since the first humans walked the earth. If you’ve ever sat and simply stared for a while into the fire, with your thoughts focused on one specific topic, that’s self hypnosis. Our distant ancestors spent a lot of their time, just staring into the fire!  And what about when you become really engrossed in a film and you're asked a question you don't hear, that's self hypnosis, or the one that really worries most of us, you drive from A to B totally absorbed by some other deep thoughts. And you get to B remembering hardly any of the journey, again that's a state of self hypnosis you slipped into during your very deep thoughts. Of course you drove with no issues what so ever because your subconscious programming allowed you to.

Hypnosis has been used for therapeutic treatment, across multiple cultures and generations, by the recognised practitioners of those times, for the last 250 years or more.

  • Clinical Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy, simply refers to the use of the hypnosis (a guided state of relaxation), by a fully trained and qualified Hypnotherapist, who then uses suggestion or analysis procedures, to assist a client with specific aspects of their subconscious thought process. A thought process that is otherwise holding them back from functioning at a level to that which the client might consider normal, beneficial and healthy. Checkout the FAQ section for a summary of typical questions that Clients have.

I don’t want you to confuse Clinical Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy with the often more familiar Stage Hypnosis. Stage Hypnosis is a bit like a Magic show. It’s very entertaining and in the case of Stage Hypnosis, very humorous. Yet like Magic, all is not as it appears and never is. The humour element for us the audience, is that the subject is under the control of the Stage Hypnotist and doing things that he would not normally do. However, as any honest hypnotist will tell you, under hypnosis you can ALWAYS hear everything around you and you know EXACTLY what you have consented to do. Some of us just want our five minutes of fame in front of an audience……and that’s ok.

  • Hypno-analysis - Hypnotherapy of the Best Hypnotherapists

At Mindset Clinical Hypnotherapy, I base the core of my work around Hypnosis related therapies, including Hypno-analysis, Suggestion, Ego States/Parts and Visualisation.  These core Hypnotherapy procedures allow a client to not only establish new positive thought processes within their own subconscious but also to address as necessary, the more complex neurosis driven unwanted thinking, functioning and or behavioural issues, that manifest themselves through our subconscious mind, often referred to as just our subconscious.

  • Hypnotherapy has a unique ability. A Clinical Hypnotherapist is able to guide you into a very pleasant state of relaxation, in other words, hypnosis. This allows the conscious mind to quieten down from its constant chitter-chatter and so enabling the therapist, direct access to the subconscious mind. As already mentioned, it is within the subconscious mind, that all of our real inner beliefs about ourselves and the outside world, are stored. But our subconscious mind is not able to differentiate between a true or false belief. It simply believes what it has been conditioned to believe, by either outside influences (Parents, Siblings, Teachers etc) or events, or by an erroneous need for self preservation.

And the subconscious mind protects those negative beliefs, or even represses traumatic memories, in order to protect the person and allow them to function.  However, these negative beliefs or repressed damaging memories can be triggered and eventually manifest themselves. And it is often only through hypno-analysis and the skill of a well trained hypnotherapist, that you the client, can be guided to modify those negative beliefs, or provide insight to those repressed memories and so free yourself of your unwanted, often significantly debilitating symptoms and issues.
